Features CASA DO CORTEN

Corten Steel is a Pageable Steel resistant to corrosion, abrasion, temperature and has high mechanical resistance.Corten Steel is not a common steel, it is an alloy steel, so answering several questions: There is no Corten effect, Corten Steel is Corten Steel. It is a special alloy developed to replace stainless steel in many applications, it is not a steel designed for use in architecture.
This use was due to the rustic look of Corten Steel, Corten Steel is produced only in coils and thick plates, that is, flat steel.Long steel only by cutting, welding and bending to make beams in U, I, W and L, round, square and hexagonal bars there is no way to produce in Corten Steel, some square tubes we can produce in Corten Steel, bending and welding.Corten Steel does not come patinated from the mill, Patina takes 3 years to form, Corten Steel comes hot-rolled and can form siliceous scales leaving the appearance of charcoal, which is why in decoration we must speed up the process using the copper activator. The formation of the patina is a function of three types of factors.
The first to be highlighted are linked to the chemical composition of the steel itself.
The main alloying elements that contribute to increasing its resistance to atmospheric corrosion, favoring the formation of patina, are copper and phosphorus.
Chromium, nickel, and silicon also have side effects.
It should be noted, however, that phosphorus must be kept at low levels (less than 0.1%),under penalty of harming certain mechanical properties of steel and its weldability. In second place are environmental factors, among which stand out the presence of sulfur dioxide and sodium chloride in the atmosphere, temperature, strength (direction, speed and frequency) of winds, wetting and drying cycles, etc.
Thus, while the presence of sulfur dioxide, up to certain limits, favors the development of patina, sodium chloride suspended in maritime atmospheres impairs its protective properties. The use of unprotected weathering steels in industrial environments where theatmospheric sulfur dioxide concentration is greater than 168 mgSO2/m2.day (United States and United Kingdom) and in marine atmospheres where the chloride deposition rate exceeds 50 mg/m2.day (United States) or 10 mg/m2.day ( UK).Finally, there are factors linked to the parts geometry, which explain why different structures of the same steel placed side by side can be attacked in different ways.
This phenomenon is attributed to the influence of open/closed sections, correct drainage of rainwater and other factors that act directly on the wetting and drying cycles.
Thus, for example, under conditions of continuous wetting, determined by unsatisfactory drying, the patina formation is seriously impaired.
In many of these situations, the corrosion rateof pageable steel is similar to that found for carbon steels.
Examples include weathering steels immersed in water, buried in soil or covered by vegetation.I and U Beams Laminated in medium strength carbon steel ASTM A36, W and H Beams laminated in high mechanical resistance steel and low alloy ASTM A572 Grade 50, Welded Beams I, U, H and W we supply in both CORTEN STEEL of low alloy and high mechanical strength resistant to atmospheric corrosion ASTM A588 and ASTM A242.
